The Media Technology Laboratory within the Faculty of Computer Science and Media Technology at Gjøvik University College has an opening for a research position in semantic web and ontology modeling to work on an R&D project funded by the Eurostars program. The position is initially planned for one year but may be extended for one additional year. Starting date will be 3 September 2012, but a later start is negotiable.
We seek candidates having a PhD degree  - or is close to finalising their degree - in the field of ontological modeling, knowledge representation, semantic web, information extraction, information retrieval, or similar. Successful candidates will have skills in – and experience from – a combination of research work and engineering work.
The aim of the R&D project is to develop a next-generation search and information service that integrates semantic search and knowledge sharing technologies. The candidate’s responsibility in the project will be to analyse a corpus of web documents to identify the concepts of the corpus’ domain and to develop an ontology describing the relationships among these concepts. The candidate should also contribute to algorithms for extracting such concepts from a representative corpus document. The corpus from where concepts will be extracted will mostly be in the form of web documents.
Candidates will have excellent written and oral English communication skills.
